New campaign raises awareness of importance of safe vehicles |
||
|
Last year, 32 people died after a road collision in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, which is why the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) is supporting Brake’s Road Safety Week campaign to highlight ways we can ensure our vehicles are safe, whoever we are and wherever we travel. The SSRP aims to reduce road collisions through joint work by partners including Staffordshire Commissioner’s Office, Staffordshire Police, Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service, Stoke-on-Trent City Council, Staffordshire County Council and National Highways. Deputy Staffordshire Commissioner for Police, Fire & Rescue and Crime Dave Evans co-chairs the SSRP, alongside Staffordshire Commissioner Ben Adams. He said: “Safe vehicles save lives. They are designed to help prevent road crashes, and protect people if a crash does happen. “Seatbelts and airbags protect people inside the vehicle. Automated driver assistance helps vehicles to stay in their lane and within speed limits. Some newer cars have technology which detects unsafe driving behaviour, for example, due to tiredness. “There are also things we can all do as drivers to ensure our vehicles are safe. This includes carrying out regular vehicle checks on tyre condition, including pressure and treads, windscreen wipers and washer fluid, and lights.” For more road safety information, visit the Staffordshire Safer Roads Partnership website. | ||
